Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant Training Program
In Australia, the Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant Program is nationally recognised as a Certificate 4 training course. The Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant will spend a period of 18 months studying the philosophy and practical assessment and therapeutic methods of Ayurveda.
Students learn how to assess the constitutional body type (Prakriti), psychological profile and current health status (Vikriti) of an individual according to traditional Ayurvedic medicine.
The students will also be trained to provide therapeutic regimes to restore balance to their clients through the use of herbs, meditation, nutrition, lifestyle counselling, daily and seasonal routines, Ayurvedic massage, Shirodhara therapy, Kati Basti therapy and Ayurvedic cooking.
Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultants have the opportunity, once qualified, to take on further training through the AIAS Advanced Diploma in Ayurveda.
Professional Opportunities:
Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultants (ALC’s) are being sought after in the Health, Spa, Yoga and Tourism Industries. Once graduated ALC can operate their own Ayurvedic Clinical practice, work in existing multi modality Health Centres, national and International Spas and Beauty Clinics and some ALC’s have begun to manufacture their own range of Ayurvedic Beauty, Herbal and Dietary Products.
The training program is delivered over a 2 year period in a format known as flexible delivery training. This format allows students from across the country to become students of Ayurveda without having to live in a Capital City. The training program is comprised of the following components:
YEAR ONE: Five weekends of face to face lectures at the course venue. Dr Ajit will personally lead an intensive weekend of lectures every 8 weeks during the first year totalling 5 weekends of intensive lectures. After each weekend students return home and will be set projects and assignments to complete before attending the next weekends lecture in 8 weeks time.

The,Science of Life
|
Knowledge of Ayurvedas origin, the six Darshanas (Philosophies) & their role in Ayurveda; Body, Mind & soul considerations in achieving perfect balance; Dhi Dhriti Smriti – how this ancient principle helps to reawaken cellular intelligence.

Students will be given Practical work to be completed in the next 8 weeks related with the subjects covered in the particular weekend session. This will be given at the end of each weekend session.

Ayurvedic Anatomy & Physiology I
|
Knowledge that how the Tridosha (Vata, Pitta & Kapha) work in our body, the assessments of body types; understanding the physiology related to the sub-doshas. Also explain how to correlate qualities, functions and places of dosha in our body.

Ayurvedic Anatomy &
Physiology II
|
Detailed understanding of Prakriti & Vikriti (constitution & present condition), assessment of doshic imbalances, determination of subsequent methods to rectify imbalances. Clinical understanding of 7 Dhatus (tissues), their metabolic function & their affect on well-being.

As field work, after the first weekend students will be instructed to begin observing people around them according to the model of the 5 elements. Students will observe and make notes about the use and misuse of the senses.

Ayurvedic Physiology III
|
Working knowledge of srotas (channels) & their role in health and disease. Importance of Dincharya & Ritucharya to achieve optimum balance in our life. The role of Agni in clinical Physiology & Pathology. Knowledge of what is Ama & how it takes form in our body along with factors responsible for causing physical & mental Ama.

Ayurvedic Nutrition
|
Classification of foods according to the 5 elements and 6 tastes. Detailed understanding of the selection & properties of the foods, their effect on our health. Detailed understanding of aharvidhividhan and its importance while planning a diet for client to achieve optimum balance along with basic cooking skills.

The unsupervised work is applied to all the weekends as this will provide opportunities for the student to broaden and deepen their skills once they complete their supervised weekend learning.

|
Knowledge & Skills to apply Ayurvedic programmes for conscious conception, improved maternal health, better parentage through Ayurveda; introduction to Ayurvedic infant massage. Understanding of women problems such as pms, menopause and how to structure lifestyle plan to deal with such problems.

Ayurvedic Psychology &,Spirituality

Knowledge of non-physical aspects of Ayus (life) that plays a critical role in physical & mental health and enhances our consciousness.

Examination of Prakriti & Vikriti through Pulse assessment & integrating qualities of the pulse with signs & symptoms in case history taking.

| Ayurvedic Musculo-Skeletal treatment |
This provides the ethics and principles of providing Ayurvedic remedial musculoskeletal treatments for a range of common disorders and dysfunctions. |
Students will be given Practical work related with the subjects covered in 15 days training. |
| Kati Basti |
A special technique called Kati Basti is described and used in all musculo skeletal disorders. |
Instructions will be given at the training period to continue this work till final exams. |
| Shirodhara |
This provides the necessary knowledge and skills to apply this ancient treatment for mental stress, to balance the charkas and treat depression and emotional disorders with extensive practical training. |
| Ayurvedic Massage |
How to identify appropriate Marma points & stroke to promote the balance of Vata, pitta & Kapha. |
This compulsory 15 day practicum will cover important subjects of a practical nature and will include: Shirodhara therapy, Ayurvedic massage, Katti Basti procedure, Pulse diagnosis, Ayurvedic Cooking, Ayurvedic Counselling and Urine diagnosis. All practical subjects are taught in a way that each student will get the opportunity to give and receive treatment thus enabling them to develop their confidence and skills in a well rounded manner under the supervision of an Ayurvedic Doctor. |
| Ayurvedic Materia Medica I |
Provide understanding on Ayurvedic Herbology, the importance of 20 Gunas & the role of kitchen herbs in maintaining our wellbeing as well as their use in various imbalances. |
| Ayurvedic Materia Medica II |
Provide more understanding on herbs, their anupana, preparation & usage in different conditions. |
| Ayurvedic Materia Medica III |
Detailed study of Tailam (medicated oil) & Ghritam (medicated ghee) & their preparation and selection for different conditions. Practical will be taken if time permits. |
| Ayurvedic Clinical Nutrition I |
Provide students with the knowledge & skills to prepare Ayurvedic Sattvic meals, recipes for different seasons & the significance of Ayurvedic cooking in Ayurvedic psychology, yoga and medidation sciences. |

Selection of foods, recipes for children, during pregnancy & for the elderly; recipes to nourish the sapta dhatu (7 tissues) & recipes for different ailments. |

Stresses the psychology development of the Ayurvedic lifestyle consultant. |
This period will include un-supervised clinical work wherein students will be required to continue with the therapies that they learnt in their practicum and complete a number of case studies for each therapy at their own location. |

Knowledge of Ayurvedic clinical assessment, diagnostic, techniques & skills required for client evaluation & prognosis. |
| Ayurvedic Clinical Pathology |
Knowledge of various common disorders relating to various channels according to Ayurvedic pathogensis & the management of these disorders, utilizing principles of Ayurvedic Ahara, Vihara & Aushadi. |

Students at this stage, are encouraged to create student study groups and maintain contact with their teacher via email. |

| Panchkarma, Rejuvenation & Revitalising Science |
This module will provide a very basic but clear understanding of the theory and objective behind Panchkarma Therapy (Ayurveda famed science of physiological detoxification & purification) at a level appropriate to the ALC course. There will not be any practical involved for this. Students will have more practical involvement with panchkarma treatments. Students will also understand about Ayurvedic Rasyana therapies. |
This module will require no assignment. |
FINAL EXAM: Final Exam will be held at the end of second year, with a three hour exam paper. (To appear in the final exam students must have attended all the weekend sessions as well as 15 days in house training and must have completed all the written assignments and unsupervised practical work – additional areas of study for the Certificate 4 may be completed after the exam including Anatomy and physiology, OH and S and Infection Control and Senior First Aid).
All course study material will be supplied on a CD in a printable format.
Students in the AIAS Ayurveda Cert 4 are required to have Internet access and an email account. This will allow easier communication for and between all students and assist in the creation of student study. Students in remote regions will feel more closely connected. Dr Ajit may be contacted whenever you have questions related specifically to you course modules and assignments. Please do not expect unscheduled health consultations for free over the internet in fairness to Dr Ajit and Ayurveda.
